Klorofil merupakan pigmen yang penting dalam proses fotosintesis, yaitu proses di mana tumbuhan dan organisme fotosintetik lainnya menggunakan energi cahaya untuk mengubah air dan karbon dioksida menjadi glukosa dan oksigen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Klorofil terletak dalam kloroplas, struktur khusus dalam sel tumbuhan dan alga yang berfungsi sebagai tempat terjadinya fotosintesis. Struktur klorofil terdiri dari cincin tetrapirrol yang mengikat atom magnesium di tengahnya. Klorofil memiliki kemampuan menyerap energi cahaya, terutama pada panjang gelombang biru dan merah, sementara memantulkan cahaya hijau, yang menjadikan tumbuhan berwarna hijau.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Klorofil terdiri dari beberapa jenis, yang paling umum adalah klorofil a dan klorofil b. Klorofil a memiliki kemampuan menyerap cahaya biru dan merah, sedangkan klorofil b menyerap cahaya biru dan kuning. Kedua jenis klorofil ini bekerja bersama-sama untuk menangkap energi cahaya yang diperlukan untuk fotosintesis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selain berperan dalam fotosintesis, klorofil juga memiliki beberapa fungsi lain dalam tumbuhan. Klorofil membantu menjaga struktur dan kekuatan kloroplas, serta berperan dalam pembentukan kloroplas baru.
